@rocketman: unions brought us Detroit, Chicago, artificial shortages, seniority based promotion and low pay for teachers, police and hospital staff.

As a result police, teachers and hospitals are low quality. It’s the same reason building contractors get a bad name for ripping people off, the reason plumbers have to charge exorbitant fees to the customer.

In all cases, private industry has done a lot better. The world has been asking for electric cars, they got killed off on behalf of unions several times in the 70s, in the 90s, Tesla doesn’t have them for a reason because all GM can do is produce the Bolt. Even foreign makers that have had full electric for nearly 20 years abroad, Nissan and Toyota refused to make full-electric, instead producing expensive hybrids with dual drivetrains for the US market. Because unions are afraid that simpler cars mean less jobs.

Why wasn’t O’Donnell charged with receiving stolen goods.

firstly i appreciate the work mark o’donnell does for the xjw community.

no doubt this has also been discussed numerous times before.

but with regard to those documents that were illegally stolen in that vice documentary.

Only if the way that it is presented is in itself considerably transformative or has some creative input. That is indeed hairy to figure out, for example, a YouTube video presenting facts in an artful manner is typically copyrightable, but the facts themselves aren't, but if the judge/jury doesn't find your presentation to be sufficiently creative (eg. if anyone can make a similar looking video), then it may not be copyrightable. If it's just a print-out compilation on a piece of paper, facts and utilitarian language can't receive copyright protection.

Not sure what that even means in the legal context. There are facts (basically a list of things that happened) and then there is a narrative where someone gives opinion or commentary. The narrative/opinion MAY be copyrightable, the list of facts isn't.

Yes, you can. There are a number of cases about that. Using copyrightable material in a lawsuit is fair use. Requesting those legal documents for any reason, even if you want to sell the result, is also fair use and is required to be allowed by law. Hence why in these cases, the opposing parties typically object to publishing the entire thing into evidence (eg. a book), and the judge will typically only allow excerpts relevant to the case and seal the evidence. Unless, and this is the case where this was established, you describe a murder in a book, the judge allowed the entire book into evidence, and yes, that entire book is available.

There is also an entire argument going on in the courts as some courts are illegally establishing copyright on case files.

However they would have no case where a snippet of the book is used along with commentary, which is fair use. Publication information is explicitly stated in the book

I didn't realize this. Must be new, I know many manuals, back in the day, did not have any copyright. You can't find any publisher eg in the old blood and custody booklets they produced, the old elder's manual (I think these were published in the 70s and 80s) only had a publisher and no copyright notice (this was when copyright still had to be established by sending a copy into the LOC)

As far as I know you cannot be part of a US-style labor union, as those are simply the (violent) enforcement arms of a (typically left-wing) political party. The main problem in US style labor unions, is that there is a requirement to vote and votes in those unions aren't protected by individual secrecy, so you cannot "spoil your vote" in a US labor union. The result is that a labor union will hold votes and ignore the result until it has the desired outcome.

I know you can join in other countries, but you cannot participate in the political processes either within the union or join political action such as picketing, although you don't have to show up to work if that action makes you unable to go to work (typically duties to 'sit out' on behalf of union leadership are spelled out in a union contract, so you have to adhere to your contract).

Not sure what you insinuate was stolen, I'm not familiar with O'Donnell

Letters and statements of facts (eg. finance records) don't have copyright associated with them in the way that a book or literary work does. Likewise if certain documents are filed in a lawsuit, these become public domain.

If someone makes a copy for example of a list of sex offenders, there is no copyright on it. Moreover, you cannot claim copyright or ownership over something you did in the commission of a crime, if you steal a car, it does not become yours, if you make a book about all the murder you committed, you cannot claim copyright if it is in fact a statement of facts.

If WTBTS claims copyright, then it admits that it has authored those documents, which is why they don't claim copyright on for example, the elder manual but they do on for example any other publication they have ever made. If you make a verbatim copy of, for example, their website, they have the right to sue, there are exceptions off course if you use excerpts for commentary, satire etc.

Unless someone physically stole a document (eg. an embossed and notarized document that has some value - such as the deed to the Kingdom Hall) AND unless he was aware the document he received was physically stolen, he did not 'receive stolen goods'.

Confidential property does not exist, there is real property and there is imaginary (intellectual) property, you cannot 'steal' a movie for example unless you go physically steal a DVD from the store or a reel from the movie studio and then it's not copyright infringement, just larceny or theft. Vice versa, you cannot steal a car by making a replica of it, at best, you committed an intellectual property violation.

@simon: I disagree with your assumption we (NATO or the UN) should never have gone. It is a humanitarian crisis in the first place and having a place under that form of religious rule should never be acceptable. If we didn't go in, we could've at least kept providing freedom-loving Afghans with air support until they got their own air forces ready.

Biden literally dropped everyone at the drop of a hat, and in that interview he even admits, he doesn't remember what information his generals provided about doing that. He has dementia and nobody is willing to invoke the 25th amendment over it, because they're afraid of losing power.

And we already have a successful nation in the area that built from the ground up on the ashes of religious extremism, the area of Israel was under similar medieval rule after the British retreated from the area, there still is a large group, which modern Israel and the UN has given concessions to brutal dictatorships in the area, but Israel has it largely under control and has shown in the past it could take more area up until the Nile and the Suez Canal if it really wanted to.

so if a man lets say is heterosexual, married and happy but likes to in the privacy of his own home wear women's cloths and his wife is ok with it.

i know a person could just shut their mouth and who would know but i am talking about jw who is very concerned about telling the truth to the dubbers.

my guess is it would not be a dfing matter but they would not be a ms or elder.

I think as with homosexuality, they treat it as a disease. But instead of advising on mental health counseling for those poor chaps, they go with punishment.

@jeffro: I didn’t mean you personally, the entire left-wing administration of the Biden presidency, CNN and left-wing adherents has been seeking the consensus of people that know nothing about the situation, have never been in poverty or a real war or a real job and then implementing their solution. Whether it’s the current situation with spending on what amounts to UBI for those that don’t want to work or Afghanistan, COVID mask mandates etc, nothing to do with reality. Just do what feels good.

According to reporters on the ground, the Taliban has already started with ethnic cleansing and sex slavery, yet CNN still holds that they will allow women to participate in society and that it is ‘peaceful’ while they go house to house and kill and torture Afghan translators and other educated people.

@jeffro: the decision to completely drop support for the Afghan people and let Iran-funded terrorists run over the country is entirely Biden’s fault. He basically did not see any tactical issues and simply gave the command to pull back without any planning. And that has been his entire administration, you see an issue and basically get the consensus from CNN talking heads to override anyone on the ground.

Afghanistan has never been stable but America’s presence at least gave the world a handle and the people a chance to lift themselves out of poverty.

Trump had a deal with the Taliban, as soon as Biden got into office they started pushing, the Iranians started pushing, North Korea, Russia and China started pushing. And he gave them everything. He has given them the entire Bosphorus, South China Sea, most of the Middle East and Mediterranean, free of charge, we aren’t even responding to the Taliban or the ISIS terrorists stoking protests in South Africa, instead blaming climate change and COVID.

in a scene reminiscent of the fall of saigon, the usa embassy staff have been evacuated by helicopter.. for a third time in asia ( a fourth, if you count usa supported chiang kai shek's defeat in mainland china) usa supported forces have been defeated.

more than 1 trillion dollars wasted and a huge deathtoll (both sides) afghanistan is back to where it started,.

will the taliban behave differently this time ?

@me.wonderful: the plan Trump made was contingent on Taliban keeping the deal, which they didn’t as soon as Biden got in. The US also wasn’t going to withdraw air support, which Biden simply evacuated all US bases with the equipment still there and let the Taliban simply walk in while the Afghan forces had literally no air, logistical or intelligence support.

The left is indeed spinning this as Trump did it, but last I checked, he hasn’t been in office for nearly a year. Trump wasn’t just going to dump the entire country and evacuate.

Question for parents with a believing co-parent

my daughter is being raised in a pimi household and spends a significant time with me in a pomo household.

i don’t pressure her to believe, so she is thinking/pressured about becoming a jw from the other end, so she is reluctant about celebrating holidays and birthdays, but as any kid, she loves the gifts and attention, so she will “not celebrate but still do things”.. she is becoming a teenager however, and showing interest in not-so-jw-things.

her mother forbids star wars for violence and magic, but she wants to watch it, she wants a few horror video games, she wants to shoot things and go hunting but guns aren’t allowed, so i’ve compromised for archery.. what do parents of teenagers do?

Thanks all, I hope I can be successful in this endeavor. Are there any “apostate” sites that are geared towards kids? I think there is a bit of a gap in our outreach there. Any parents willing to join me in this effort?
